Okay, but FTM and MTF suggests that a) they were not a woman/not a man in the first place, and are now transitioning into one; and b) that they’re going to surgically transition.

Some trans people are okay with being identified as FTM/MTF, but not all are. AFAB and AMAB are much better for general use.

These are pretty good, but please read the comments. And I the asterisk after trans is not necessarily the best either, but I think these posters had the right idea at heart.
